Should You Do a Body Cleanse or Detox to Maximize the Effectiveness of HCG Diet Drops?

Some people recommend a body cleanse or detox to improve the results you get from HCG diet drops and the HCG diet. This idea may have started when Kevin Trudeau added phase 1 to the original HCG diet. Part of Trudeau's phase 1 is to do a colon cleanse. Although it was never recommended by Dr. Simeons, some feel that a body cleanse or detox can help.

Why would a body cleanse improve your weight loss? One of the functions of fat cells is to enclose and "hide" potentially harmful toxins from your body. Some nutritionists theorize that if you have too many toxins in your body, it encourages your body to retain fat, and that flushing toxins from your body will encourage your body to burn fat. Other benefits attributed to cleansing or detoxing are increased immune system function along with increased alertness and energy.

What is a body cleanse? Also called a detox diet, juice cleanse, or juice fast, it is a period of one to three days where you ingest nothing but water or juice, sometimes involving raw vegetables or oral supplements. There are many variations on this simple idea, and many of them are probably much more complicated than they really need to be. The basic idea is to stop eating food while increasing fluid intake to flush out all the toxins.

Does it work? There's not a lot of scientific evidence that a detox diet actually clears out very many toxins. But there's plenty of evidence that short periods of fasting can increase weight loss, along with numerous other beneficial effects like improved cholesterol and glucose levels, increased insulin sensitivity, increased epinephrine and norepinephrine levels, and increased glucagon levels. As long as you're drinking plenty of water (or optionally juice), a short 18, 24, or 36 hour fast will improve your metabolism, increase fat burning, and make you feel more alert. You can lose up to 6 pounds after a single fasting period. Much of that weight is water, but some is definitely fat.

So even if a detox or fasting period doesn't clear out toxins, there are clearly some benefits. There are also some warnings. You must drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Some detox diets instruct you to fast for up to three days, but it's not recommended to fast for longer than 36 hours. The benefits of fasting decrease rapidly after 36 hours, and the risks increase. Potential side effects include fatigue and headache, and periods of fasting longer than two days can cause vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

While there may be some benefits to a detox diet or juice fast, you don't have to do it to have a successful HCG diet experience. Uncounted people have lost massive weight without doing a body cleanse. To get the most out of your HCG diet, simply take HCG diet drops, or the new Nano Diet Drops alternative, and stick to the diet protocol as written by Dr. Simeons.
